It is miscible with ethanol and ether, slightly soluble in benzene, almost insoluble in water, but can be gradually decomposed into silicon oxide by water. Use
Mainly used in the manufacture of chemical resistant coatings, aerogels and heat-resistant coatings, organic silicon solvents and precision casting adhesives. The metal surface treated with ethyl orthosilicate vapor can be anticorrosive and waterproof, and ethyl orthosilicate can be used to Silicon infiltration on the metal surface and treatment of optical glass can increase the light transmittance. After it is completely hydrolyzed, extremely fine silicon oxide powder is produced, which is used to make phosphors. It can also improve the performance of other resins and the raw material for making silicon polymer compounds.
